Learners’ Journals

bbb

We are delighted to be the first school in Scotland to use Learners’ Journals with all of our pupils. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require more information.

 q

What are they? They are a regular electronic bulletin about your child’s progress.

Why are we using them? They allow us to provide you with up to the minute information about the progress of your child. They have photographs to let you see the sort of fun and exciting learning activities your child is participating in. They will replace the end of year paper report.

What if I want a paper copy? They can be printed off as a PDF.

What the benefits? It’s a much greener system but more importantly the information you receive is up to date. It also allows you to easily comment on your child’s progress. It will become a rich record of your pupil’s work as they progress from nursery to primary 7. It allows you see what’s happening at school. Also, if you have family overseas and wish them to access your child’s journal, they can be easily added to the system

Are they secure? The Journals meet all EU regulations for internet security and hosting and are regularly tested to ensure they continue to comply. You can only access your own pupil’s work.

How do I get access to them? We need an email address. Once we have this – we will send you an email with your username and a link to the Learners’ Journals. You will be asked to create a password and a pin number. The journals can be found at – https://craigour-primary.yourlearningjournals.co.uk/

What if I forget my username or password? Let the teacher know and we will reset your details.

How many observations can I expect? For this session 2015 to 2016 the minimum will be 5 observations per term. Included in this will be two observations annually, that include an individual video of your pupil talking about their learning and their achievements.

The Journals also allow us a school to track the progress of individual pupils or class sets of pupils. This helps us to ensure that your child’s learning is coherent and progressive.

We are working alongside the creators of the Journals to make additional tweaks to continue to develop them. Here are some of the comments that parents have already made about them…

We are now live with the system and the parent response has been overwhelming – currently more than 250 unsolicited responses from parents commenting on their child’s work and progress. Parents are now receiving regular detailed progress reports emailed directly to their phone or tablet.

Our next steps

  • improve the collation of wider attainment data
  • encourage pupil comment/ reflection on their work
  • working with developers to add improvements to the service
  • use the tracking and coverage data for planning next learning steps
Thanks for all these updates ,at least when I ask him what did you do at school today he won’t say I don’t know or how was school today? Fine! The learning journal will do the talking instead. Great !
It’s great to get so many regular updates on X’s work. We really enjoy seeing what’s new in her learning journal.
Just to say thank you so much for adding these wonderful examples of what the children have been up to – its great for parents to get an idea of all the fun learning that goes on every day! Well done to all the children and staff!
