Welcome back to Block 2 of this session!
We are disappointed to learn that already the new building has been subjected to violence by persons misusing our school grounds out with school hours. Please, please do not hesitate to contact the Police or inform the school if you have any information. We will of course respect your privacy.
Playground security is still a concern for us. We are asking again that parents wait at the fencing outside the dining area where Primary 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7 line up and at the gate on Moredun Pk St for Primary 3. Please feel free to wait in this area with your child until the bell rings but we would ask that you refrain from lining up with your child. If you want to speak to a teacher please can you use the Homework Diary. Now that the weather is colder we need to get the children into the building as quickly as possible. There are differences with the time of the bells ringing in both buildings but we are addressing this so please bear with us.
This session we are particularly concerned about the number of children late every day. Arriving at school on time is part and parcel of being ready for learning. Children arriving late are disruptive to the teaching that has already begun. If your child is late for school from Monday 27/10/14 then entry will be again via the front office entrance of the school. There will be a member of staff there to record all late arrivals which will be forwarded now to the Education Welfare Officer.
We will be enrolling children for Primary 1 week beginning 10th November so please look out for details of what is required if your child is now eligible to enrol for school Session 15-16. There is an Open Day for new Primary 1 parents to visit our school on November 5th between 9-10am and again between 2-3pm or by arrangement with the school. We look forward to meeting new Primary 1 Parents/Guardians at these times.
This will be another busy term for us and to keep you informed please refer to the school web site and your child’s homework diary for information.
We have arranged for a presentation of “Peter Pan” for Pupils in P3-7 on Thursday 30th October. The cost of this is £1 per child. We have arranged a similar production for Primary 1&2 pupils later in the session.(Details to follow).
November will also see the NHS staff in school offering the flu vaccine for all pupils (with your permission).
We are sorry to be losing Ms Corbett who is moving on to a school closer to her home. We wish her every happiness in her new school. Ms Read will now be the class teacher for P2B. This term we also have University of Edinburgh Students and Edinburgh College students working with us in the school.
We continue to be a very busy school and value your support. Thank you.

Dear Parent/ Guardian
September is here already and the school is a hive of industry. Primary 1 now attend full time education. Primaries 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 have all attended author visits at the Book Festival in Charlotte Square or our local library and last week, in school, we welcomed author Johnathon Meres. Primary 3 have been to the Fringe Festival to see “Pirate Gran”. Primary 6& 7 have been to Robinwood Camp and those who did not attend have made a super new video tour of our school and its grounds. Please make time to check out our updated website. Primary 5A are walking to and from swimming at Gracemount Leisure Pool. Last week was an amazing Health Promoting week giving all our children a chance to experience activities open to them in our community. We were delighted with the huge turn out of parents to see some of these activities on Wednesday.
And all that took place in August, not to mention the opening of the new school extension and a visit to it by our Parent Council members.
September looks just as busy!
This week the school photographer will be here taking individual and family groups across the school and nursery.
11th September is Parent Consultation and we look forward to seeing you then.
15th and 18th September 2014 are both holiday dates from school.
Of course there will be After School Clubs continuing into September before and after school.
We are looking for interested parents with free time to spare to help with our garden, library and school walks. If you have any additional time please return the attached slip indicating any week day, time and interest you have to help us.
October will be equally busy for us and we will have our first Bookfair so look out for posters.
The October holiday begins on Friday 10th October returning on Tuesday 21st October 2014.
How time flies!
Welcome back to another busy year at Craigour Park and to all our new families. We look forward to working with you all.
