The children had the opportunity to listen Matthew Fitt talk about the Scottish language then read a section of Charlie and the Chocolate Works. They then had great fun making up Scots words. Jelly babies became jelly babas or jelly bairns. Gob stoppers became sour grub stoppers or mooth braker or mooth stepper! The children then had the opportunity to ask questions – How might we saw waterbottle in Scots? Who got you into writing books? What’s the hardest Scottish word? What was the first book you owned? Mr Consitt tweeted our questions through to the Scottish Book Trust event in the hope it might be read out on the live event.
